Conditions affected (mostly badly) by solar activity, but it was good to catch a few openings on 15m and 10m. After the contest had finished we discovered our beverage was faulty, apologies to those we could not hear on the low bands. Thanks for the fun!

7Q7EI - Malawi DXpedition 2018

Delighted to announce the EI DX Group (who brought you 9N7EI earlier this year) are announcing our next DXpedition for 2018 which will be to Malawi under the callsign 7Q7EI.

A team of 14 operators will be QRV for 2 consecutive weekends from March 21st to April 3rd also taking in the CQ WPX SSB contest 2018.

The team have carefully selected an ideal location on the shores of lake Malawi and will be QRV on all bands from 160m through 10m, SSB, CW and RTTY.

We are looking forward to hearing you on the bands!!!

Great contest, we had an intense battle with several stations throughout the weekend, including E7DX and IR4M on "live scores" which adds another exciting dimension to the contest! It was a difficult weekend with poor propagation and very crowded LF bands, but we had a good strong finish on 20m. Thanks to all for the QSO's, see you in the next one. 73 

ARRL DX Contest, SSB - March 4th & 5th 2017

It was the first time that I've entered this contest and I was fortunate to operate this contest from my home country of EI from the fantastic station that is EI7M, Conditions including weather for this contest was pretty poor for us over the weekend and we were unable to put the 40m Yagi at full height due to high winds which impacted our score on this band but saying this 20m was quiet interesting with some very good runs across North America at times. Murphy even appeared over the weekend with various gremlins showing up leaving a list for a very busy time ahead preparing the station for CQ WPX at the end of the month. 

Overall I had a great weekend and I'd like to thank the Team at EI7M (John EI8IR, Neil EI3JE, Mark EI3KD, John EI7IG and Dan EI3JZ) for inviting me along for the weekend it was certainly a fantastic experience and great to contest alongside you guys and I'm looking forward to the next one.

IARU HF Championship July 2016

For this years IARU HF Championship contest on July 9th-10th, 2016, members of the newly formed EI DX Group put on big effort from a green field site with a multi multi station (Multi Radio/ Multi Op) for this contest. The objective for this contest is to contact as many other radio amateurs, especially IARU member society HQ stations, around the world as possible using the 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 meter bands. 

We had a 7 station setup for the weekend and were QRV from 10m through 160m bands both on SSB & CW.  The callsign used for the weekend was EI0HQ as the National Irish Headquarter station.

I really enjoyed the weekend it was a fantastic opportunity to test out some antennas also new equipment and it was a great way to meet new people within our DX group. The weather conditions throughout the weekend could have been better and was quiet variable at times, as on the Friday when setting up the station we had beautiful clear sky's and sunshine but then it rained on the Saturday and Sunday and of course then cleared up for taking everything down at the end of the contest... Typical.... Propagation for this contest was not great this year and activity seemed low at times with the effects of the solar minimum certainly being observed across the bands throughout the weekend and a minor geomagnetic storm was observed during the previous 24 hours of the contest and with a high speed solar wind stream which remained geo-effective, there was some isolated periods of storming which remained throughout the contest unfortunately. Not to worry we all enjoyed the weekend and learned a lot about our EI DX Group including each other. I'm certainly looking forward to meeting up with the guys again and doing some other contests and DXpedition's in the future. The results are still yet to come for this contest hopefully we did alright and my thanks goes to all the EI operators that turned up and made this weekend possible, I really enjoyed myself and I hope you got the opportunity to work us either on SSB or CW and on as many of the bands as you could over the weekend.

I arrived in Ireland just 2 days before the contest where I had to build the station from scratch, a massive thank's goes out to my Dad EI9JA for helping me build the station for the weekend, I must say this was a difficult contest with only 100w as band conditions were hard at the best of times and unfortunately there was bad propagation on high bands too with low activity from North America. Thanks to all for the QSO's over the weekend and I hope to see you in the next contest.

WPX is great fun, 10m had short openings to SA both days, 15m never really got going for any length of time, 80m and 160m were very noisy.

Station improvements were mostly successful, more to complete as a few areas were troublesome or didn't work as required

After Storm Barney caused considerable damage to one of the towers and the LF verticals only 12 days before the CW contest, we weren't sure if we would be able to recover, but we did, although one tower was not fully raised due to the forecast high winds for the weekend we managed to get on the air for the CW contest.

The 10m band never opened for us over the weekend with most of the QSO's on 10m being made on Saturday, There was some positives from the weekend the new 40m and 80m antennas performed as well as to be expected from our 70m x 70m plot which has all our antennas crammed in, we still have some issues to resolve which we know will improve our score and more improvements on LF RX antennas are required but in all we had a great time. 

This year we were short on operators due to not really being able to commit to having a station ready in time for the contest, also one op couldn't make it until Sunday so the first 32 hours was ran by 3 operators (M0CKE, M0VKY & EI5IX ). We are pleased to report that there was no more storm damage over the weekend even though we had some really strong winds and gusts during Sunday between 2pm and 8pm. 

Nice to see the usual UK activity in this contest and Thanks again to everyone for the QSO's We hope to see you all in 2016.

RSGB AFS 1.8MHz SSB Contest November 2015

On the 14th of November the RSGB AFS 1.8MHz SSB Contest took place from 20:00 - 23:00UTC, I was out with the affiliated Blacksheep Contest & DX Group at our VHF/UHF contest site on the Isle of Sheppey. 

For this contest our Team was Blacksheep members: Nick G4FAT, Bill M0BTZ and myself using the club callsign MX0BAA as the Club HQ during the contest. Roger G3MEH and John G0ODQ were also on the band from their own QTH's as Club Members of the Blacksheep Contest & DX Group. 

Weather conditions were very wet and windy on the Saturday but it didn't stop Nick and Bill getting the antennas up just before darkness set in at 17:30UTC. The Antennas selected for this contest was a 270ft Doublet antenna in an Inverted V configuration, we also tried a Sloper antenna on a fiberglass pole off the top of the Tower approx 90ft from ground, the Transceiver used this time around was a Yaesu FTDX5000MP at 30w with a M0BTZ Homemade ATU.

We finished this contest at 23:00UTC on the 14th with a claimed score of 123 QSO and 1559 points, We contacted 7 DXCC entities and found that there was excellent activity on the band and we all really enjoyed it, just before the contest started and under my own callsign M0XII/P on 160m I had a FB QSO with Khvicha 4L1HD and he had a great signal with us on Sheppey with some QSB at times but his RST was 55 / 57 it was a nice surprise and a ATNO on that band for me. Thanks again to everyone who gave us points during the contest it was an enjoyable event, looking forward to the next one.
